This is a test video of something I’ve been working on. It’s early stages yet, and I need to find a better camera, this was done using my macbook’s inbuilt iSight. Eventually I hope to use the setup as a component of drawing performances and as a means to make drawings.
in the video, why does the walker get lower and lower on the screen and end up looking a primordial?
I think there’s two reasons, the first is that it’s a pretty cheap camera and it’s not pointing at the projection at the same angle that the projector is. This means that with every loop the image is warped more and more, it’s most evident in the first projection after I walk past, it is a considerably different shape from the original. The second reason is light feedback, again due to the cheap camera but also just inherent in the setup and process. Each time the projection is filmed the camera picks up more light, so the next time it’s projected it’s even brighter, and the camera picks up even more light on the next cycle, creating a feedback loop. This is why it become more and more abstract.
Hopefully I’ll be able to work the kinks out fairly soon, though I do like the gradual degradation of the image I’d like it to happen a bit slower, I think a better camera will help a lot. I’m just having a bit of trouble getting my good camera to communicate with my compter and might have to invest in a video camera or a better webcam.
