First Print / Desert Rose

Posted in 3D drawings, Drawing by robbiekarmel on March 7, 2013

My first 3D print test pieces have arrived, these were drawn by hand in space using a program built by the fantastic Reuben Ingall and then turned into solid 3D objects and printed.   This first piece stands about 10cm high and is the sculptural form of one of the drawings in the first video in this post.

I think I can see the relationship between the video and the 3 D print. How are the bottom 3 works done?

The bottom three are two 3D drawings in the same space rendered in Maya, it’s the same process as preparing the lines for 3D printing but with much thinner lines.

    They sort of look plant-like.

fucking cool dude! hey if you’ve got time it’d be sweet if you could get a little bit of video of you doing a 3d drawing so folks can see how the whole thing works, like, the act of it 🙂 R
